The Melbourne Wooden Boat Festival will be held in Victoria Harbour, Docklands, in February 2010

The event will bring together all of the major wooden boat and classic yacht groups in and around Melbourne creating an exciting opportunity for wooden boat enthusiasts to participate and enjoy.

The event is designed to promote wooden boat heritage and connect a broader public with the spirit of timber boating.

Event Highlights
The program includes both on water and on piazza displays. Quick and Dirty competition, Model sailing and racing boats, Marine trade displays, Strolling Shanty musicians, In harbour sailing, working boats displays.

Boat maintenance master classes How to maintain your hull, engine, rig, sail, paint. What is required for an annual safety inspection and information on the suitability of marine timbers.

Shipwright Conference Gathering the shipwrights of Victoria in one space to meet and share their extraordinary skills, knowledge and history.

Wooden Boat Rally 2009

Tamar River

In February of this year the fourth Wooden Boat Rally was held on the Tamar River at the Seaport Marina in Launceston, Tasmania. The rally attracted 91 boats from around Tasmania ranging from the 13 entries in the alternative propulsion event to a number of vessels up to 50 feet. The rally was conducted over the weekend with thousands of people viewing the craft on display. The fifth rally is to take place on February 13th & 14th 2010.

This time last year, Alma Doepel was still in Port Macquarie. As promised, she is now in Melbourne and a great deal has been achieved in the space of 12 months.

To keep everyone involved and informed, the Alma Doepel Supporters Club invites you to dinner to mark the 106th birthday of our favourite ship.

The Birthday Dinner is now planned as an annual event for ADSC members and friends.

We promise a good meal (same price as last year),convivial company, some entertainment, a raffle, and an update on progress.
