The historic wharf at the river port of Goolwa is the setting for Australia’s largest wooden boat gathering… The planning of the eleventh SA Wooden Boat & Music Festival is well underway for the 2009 March long weekend at Goolwa.
ver 15000 people gather every two years for three days of exciting festivities and a host of events on water and on land including maritime displays, music concerts, together showcasing SA’s regional wine and food.
“Boaties are a resilient bunch says Chairman of the 2009 Festival, Mike Moseley. In recent times the drought, the river, projected low water levels at Goolwa and negative perceptions wont stop us from having the biggest Festival ever.” The 2009 Festival Committee have been working extremely hard in putting together a fantastic programme with new events on water & on land over the three days.
Discover what’s new at the 2009 Festival with a theme on smaller boats, there will be putt-putts, riverboats, sabres, Dinghies, firebugs, rowing boats, kayaks and canoes along with model boats and maritime displays, wooden boats of all shapes, steam, sail, oar & paddle & electric are welcome.
There will be a range of sailing races with Restricted 21’s, sabres, mirrors and many more.
The Festival will assist in raising awareness of the river and environment including solar electric wooden boats and sustainable living exhibits with solar power and water management, bush tucker displays.
We invite wooden boat owners to register their boats and be part of this unique festival and this exciting maritime experience combined with the setting of historic Goolwa, good food & wine with great entertainment. Something for everyone, join us on the March Long weekend, 2007.
