Catriona of Adelaide - $400,000

Catriona of Adelaide

Catriona of Adelaide is an exceptionally well built and meticulously outfitted 46’ timber cruising masthead sloop, designed by the renowned naval architect Alan Payne.

She has extensively cruised the southern and eastern coasts of Australia, including participation in the Bicentennial Tall Ships race from Hobart to Sydney in 1988.

Boat builder Allan Smith, well recognised for his work with Surf Lifesaving boats, commenced building the vessel using laminated Queensland Maple for the backbone and framing.

Items such as deck the deck shelf were made in laminated/scarphed Douglas Fir. The cast lead ballast keel is bolted to the deadwood with Monel Metal bolts. The interior of the hull is clear finished in epoxy resin and clear polyurethane.

The decks are framed in Queensland Maple, with double diagonal Western Red Cedar laid on the deck and fore and aft planked with teak. The sides of the cabin and solid dodger are planked in Huon pine. The top of the trunk cabin and dodger are laminated with four layers of 6mm Bruynzeel mahogany marine plywood.

The mast and rigging are sized to withstand a roll over and were built to reflect absolute reliability and longevity. The rig is a conventional masthead sloop with a removable inner forestay.

A roller furler is fitted to the forestay and the mainsail is slab reefed, with lazy jacks. Catriona was built with no expense spared in ensuring the best materials and methods were used during construction. Since her launch, she has been continually upgraded and maintained to ensure she is "ready to go" at any time.

Catriona is currently berthed at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia (CYCSA) in North Haven, Adelaide. A personal inspection and test sail is available to genuinely interested parties.
