Maritime at the Mechanics

Posted: 25  Feb. 2012

Join us for a sausage sizzle in the park with music and a celebration of the Victorian Navy and all her might.
The Victorian Navy formed the nucleus of the Australian Navy and Cerberus, the ironclad monitor battleship was the flagship of the fleet. Along with the wooden Nelson she was based at Williamstown from the 1870ís. Cerberus is the only substantially intact surviving warship of any of Australia's pre-federation colonial navies. Come and hear John Rogers, Friends of the Cerberus president and Fleet Engineer, Victorian Navy who will tell us about a time when Victorian naval defence was cutting edge.
