History

Built as a pleasure craft for Earnie Ricker and worked and fished by Alan Brockoff for over 30 years around Sorrento, Portsea and Queenscliff. She passed into the hands of Larry Watkins who was such a keen amateur fisherman he had an architect designed cleaning room added to his Portsea home. Viking was subsequently owned by Harry Farnsworth builder of the Sorrento Aquarium and with his brother, operator of the Sorrento, Portsea, Queenscliff passenger ferry service. After a period in the ownership of Al Long she was purchased by Ken Bunny in 1980. He had her restored by Fisherman and CBC life member Ted Mackinnon who even machined a set of canvas sails for her. She was hauled out by Ted at the traditional Sorrento beaching point Tally Erlandsen’s "docks" opposite Erlandsen Avenue. Ken renamed her Gallo Nero (Black Rooster) after beverages bearing such a logo but Ted never got round to painting the logo on the boat!
