History |
History and details: One of two sisters. 13.48t displ. Model 2. Design similar to Army workboat but with very tall deckhouse and towing post in cockpit. Towing bridge at transom. Three rectangular windows each side of aft coachhouse. Speed on trials 9.92 knots @ 1800rpm. 1968 berthed at Garden Island Dockyard. 1969 at Sydney towing an oil fuel lighter. 1971 workboat Model 2 towing assigned to Flag Officer Commanding East Australian Area (FOCEA) Captain of the Port (C of P). 44pax + 1 crew. 1980/12 towed ammunition lighter CAL5010 (qv) past Goat Island. 1983/02/07 operating on Sydney Harbour. 1984/02/06 berthed in Sydney. c1995 dragged while towing out NZ Frigate, was still attached by rope on bow when ship went underway. Engaged towing large floating fenders on off Garden Island. c2002 collided with stern of HMAS Success, stove in wheelhouse. 2012/03 attached to Garden Island Dockyard in Sydney. 2012/02/26 sighted laid up alongside ammunition lighter 5012 (ex.CAL5012 qv) off Spectacle Island. |
